When the doors of the State Engineering Experiment Station (EES) opened back in 1934, the handful of part-time researchers and graduate assistants running the operation knew they were a part of something very special. The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI), as it is now known, employs nearly 2,800 highly skilled people and conducts more than $782 million in government and industry sponsored research each year.
This is the story of how a simple idea grew into an institute that has had a worldwide impact — solving tough technical problems and making the world a better and safer place for all of us.
