Our History

When the doors of the State Engineering Experiment Station opened back in 1934, the handful of part-time researchers and graduate assistants running the operation knew they were a part of something very special. The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI), as it is now known, employs nearly 1600 highly-skilled people and conducts more than $200 million in government and industry sponsored research each year.

This is the story of how a simple idea grew into an institute that has had a worldwide impact – solving tough technical problems and making the world a better, and safer, place for all of us.
